Sow seeds indoors from mid-March. Can also be sown in a propagator. The seeds need plenty of warmth and light to germinate. Sow the seeds on the ground and press them gently into the soil, but do not cover them. Syrian oregano is in fact a light germinator. Keep the temperature as even as possible and don't let it drop especially at night.
Once the seedlings are 3 - 5 cm in size, they can be planted out in individual pots. Harden them off after 6- 8 weeks and place them in a sunny, chalky spot with shelter from the wind or in a greenhouse after the plants have acclimatised to the outside temperature for a few days (about 10 days). Provide a sheltered spot with plenty of sun and chalk rich well-drained soil. Keep 20 - 35 cm space between each plant.
Sow outdoors from mid-May, as soon as there is no chance of night frost. Sow in a sunny, sheltered spot with chalk and well-drained soil. Sow shallowly and do not cover the seeds. Keep well moist and weed-free. Do not let Syrian oregano dry out.
Continuous harvesting of the leaves keeps productivity high. In winter, protect well or overwinter inside. These plants flower with small white flowers from June to August.
