Butterhead lettuce Marvel of 4 seasons is an organically grown, very hardy, reliable and French Heirloom variety that can be grown in cooler periods very succesfully. It forms a loose head surrounded by crispy, dark green, deliciously flavoured leaves with a red rim. This red turns dark under the influence of cold. Sow and harvest in the spring, summer and autum. You can harvest this lettuce depending on the temperature and weather conditions after 2 - 3 months.

Sow indoors or under glass from march - april. Use moist loose potting soil. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil, because lettuce is a light germinator. Keep the soil moist. Transplant the seedlings approx. 3 - 4 weeks after germination to seperate pots. Plant the seedlings outdoors, when there's no longer any danger of nightfrosts. Keep the seedlings approx. 20 - 30 cm apart, to ensure the forming of the heads.
Sow outdoors from may on, when there's no longer any danger of nightfrosts. Sow in rows approx. 20 - 30 cm apart, 3 seeds in one hole approx. 20 cm apart. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. Thin the young seedlings to 1 strongest per hole, approx. 3 - 4 weeks after germination.
Sow every 3 weeks a small amount to ensure a continious harvest of fresh lettuce heads. Avoid drought and keep watering during dry spell. Protect Your seedlings and lettuce heads against snails, slugs and aphids.
