Daikon Radish sprouts is an organicly grown sprouting vegetable. It's generally known that Radish is a very healthy vegetable, but the sprouts of this vegetable are still relatively unknown. All healthy substances that Radish contains a.o.: vitamin C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B11 and the minerals: manganese, potassium, phosphor, magnesium, zinc, sodium, copper, iron, and calcium and finally also the antioxidants anthocyanin and isothiocyanate are in concentrated form in the sprouting seeds. The taste is slightly spicy and slightly peppery and this makes the sprouts very versatile to use to add a delicious touch of health to various dishes and recipes. Consider, for example, adding to salads, soups, sauces, on bread and briefly stir-frying. Add the Daikon Radish sprouts raw and at the last minute to the dishes so that the healthy substances are preserved.
Sprouting seeds can be grown indoors all year round. Sow small amounts at a time, depending on your need.
Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 8 - 12 hours beforehand. Drain the water and then rinse the seeds, drain the water again and put them in a special seed bin, plastic container or a glass jar. If necessary, cover them with a piece of gauze to make rinsing easier.
Place them at room temperature (21 ° C) and fairly dark. The latter to prevent discolouration of the sprouting vegetables. Rinse the sprouts every 12 hours and drain the water. Continue this for 2 - 5 days, depending on the desired length of the sprouts. Disrupt the seeds as little as possible during this rinsing. They have to form a dense mass.
After this rinsing period, store the sprouts as dry as possible in the refrigerator packed in a plastic bag, plastic container with lid or a glass dish with lid. In this way the sprouts can be stored for up to 5 days. But it is best to eat the sprouts immediately fresh. When harvesting, the sprouts can be cut off or, if desired, eaten together with the seeds.
In warm weather it may be necessary to rinse more often.
Note, sprouts are very sensitive to bacteria. Do you smell a strange odour? Then you better throw away the sprouts.
