House Leek is also called Sempervivum, thunderweed and rockrose. It is a small plant native to the mountains of southern and eastern Europe. It can grow on all kinds of soil, but it needs very good drainage. Can also be grown on roofs, in rock gardens and in a low container on e.g. the garden table. It is a member of the succulent family (Crassulaceae). It stays small and can withstand drought well and needs little care. Ensure good drainage and keep the plant rather too dry than too wet. Remove spent flowers after flowering. The plants produce their own small rosettes that can be used to propagate house leek. House leek stays green even in winter. Hardy perennial.
