Outdoor sowing: April - mid July
Germination: 14 - 21 days
Germination temp.: 18 - 20 °C
Sowing depth: shallow - ½ cm
Plant position: sunny
Flowers from: June - September
Sow in the beginning of April on a sunny plot. Sow thinly and cover the seeds with a thin layer of sowing soil or carefully rake the seeds into the soil. If the seeds are very small, it's useful to mix the seeds with some dry, fine sand. This makes it easier to sow thinly. Keep well moist and weed free. After the seedlings have come up, you will have no more maintenance for your beautiful flower meadow. It's important to make sure the soil is nutrient poor before sowing a flower mixture. Mow the existing grass very short. You can also rake the soil to make it rough. Then sow seeds of the Yellow Rattle. This plant feeds on the roots of the existing grasses, suppresses the grass and impoverishes the soil. This is necessary before sowing a flower mixture.
Leave the flowers in late summer once they have finished flowering. This mix consists of flowers and other plants, which after flowering, contain seeds that are eaten by all sorts of birds that come to the garden.
