Valerian is very well known for its soothing and sleep providing propertys. This herb has tiny beautiful pale pink flowers over long light hairy stems and beautiful featherly leaves. It grows in the wild in Europe amongst rivers and lakes. The dry roots are used to make a trangulasing tea. Perennial. Heigth: 50 - 150 cm.

Valerian can be sown on all types of moist soil. Only the 12 cm long root stem needs a lot of room. So you need to loosen the soil. Sow on a very sunny spot and rake the seeds gently in. Keep moist and weedfree.
Valerian is very low maintenance. It is a self sower. Harvest the root stem in the second year after sowing. Remove the hair roots and clean the roots stems. Keep in a dry place. The dried roots are used to make tea, tinctures and homeopathic medicin.
