Sow in the early spring for an early harvest. Sow 1 seed in seperate post about 2½ cm deep at a temperature of at least 10ºC, extra warmth provides a better germination. Transplant the seedlings after the last frost on a very sunny and sheltered plot outdoors. Harden the seedlings for about 10-14 days during the day before planting them outdoors.
Sow directly outdoors on a very sunny and sheltered plot after the last frosts. Sow the corn in rows about 45 cm apart. Sow in blocks to optimilize germination.
Let the cobs get completely yellow and dry on the outside before You harvest them. The kernels have to feel completely hard. Hang the cobs to dry in a warm and moist room for a couple of weeks till there's about 14 % humidity in the kernels. There has to be enough humidity in the kernels to let them pop. Test a few kernels to see if it's possible to pop them. You can also water the kernels with a bit water and shake them. Don't plant sweet corn in the neighbourhood of the popping corn. Because they can cross and this is bad for the quality of the sweet corn.
