Savoy Cabbage Perfect Savoy grows late in summer. It has a cylindrical-like head and dark green wrinkled leaves. These make this variety a very attractive variety. It is deliciously sweet in flavour and very tender. The flavour is much sweeter after a slight frost before harvesting. This cabbage can be used as cooked vegetable, in mashed potatoe stews and the leaves can also be filled with minced meat.

Sow indoors from half march, about 5-7 weeks before the seedlings can be planted outdoors. Sow in individuals pots with moist potting soil. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. Transplant the seedlings outdoors about 30 cm apart, when they have 6 true leaves in mid may, when there's no longer any danger of nightfrosts Keep moist and weedfree. Protect the seedlings against birds, cabbagefly and snails and slugs.
Sow outdoors in may, when there's no longer any danger of nightfrosts. Sow about ¼ - ½ cm deep, 2-3 seeds per hole and keep about 45 cm apart. Germination takes about 10-15 days, depending on the weather and temperature. Thin the seedlings to 1 strongest per hole, when they're about 3-5 cm tall. Cabbage needs a lot of fertilizer and water during growth. But be careful: to much water in a short period can cause the heads to crack and rot. Protect against birds, snails and slugs and other pests. Don't sow and plant cabbage on a plot were cabbage varieties have grown in previous years. Sow, for a longer harvesting period, small amounts each time. Harvest the cabbage when the heads are firm. Cut the stem right above the lowest leaves with a knife or harvest the whole cabbage with a rake.
