Savoy Cabbage Westlandse Putjes is an organically grown, large cabbage variety with heavy wrinkled leaves. It has a firm head with on the topside a dent because the head isn't altogether closed, and it's surrounded by darker green wrinkled and puckered leaves. This deliciously flavoured cabbage can be used as cooked vegetable, in mashed potato stew and filled with minced meat. The flavour of this cabbage gets sweeter after some frost.

Cabbage needs a lot of fertilizer and water during growth. But be careful: to much water in a short period can cause the heads to crack and rot. Protect against birds, snails and slugs and other pests. Don't sow and plant cabbage on a plot were cabbage varieties have grown in previous years. Sow, for a longer harvesting period, small amounts each time.Harvest the cabbage when the heads are firm. Cut the stem right above the lowest leaves with a knife or harvest the whole cabbage with a rake.
